March 29, 2011 – Thanks to above average annual snowfall, and the absence of any significant spring melt, the Lake Louise Ski Area is in superb condition as it prepares to "ramp up the fun" for its’ final five weeks of operation.
"This year's spring skiing season will go down in the history books as one of the best ever", confirms Lake Louise Ski Area Marketing Director, John Ross. "Skiers are enjoying mid-winter snow conditions throughout the entire ski area. All 138 runs are wide open, including such double black favourites as Whitehorn II, Fallen Angel, ER 5 and Elevator Shaft. With excellent snow conditions and a ton of special events planned, April should be an awesome month to ski and ride at Lake Louise".
With 450 cms of natural snowfall this winter and a current mid-mountain base of 170 cms, Lake Louise will be open every day until Sunday, May 1.

Ken Jones Classic Ski Mountaineering Race: April 2
Lake Louise will be hosting its first annual ski mountaineering competition on April 2. The race is put on in partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada and promises to be an endurance testing, leg burning, good time!
This year’s race will provide two course options. The Youth and Citizen/Recreational course will climb from Whitehorn Lodge, over the Summit, to Richardson’s Ridge, and back to the Base Area finish by way of Temple Lodge – approximately 620 metres / 2000 feet of climbing and descending.
The Race/Elite course will add in an ascent of Wolverine to Purple Ridge, and a descent of Elevator Shaft to give a legend-in-the-making 5200+ feet of vert. Both routes exit down the ski out.
Registration for the Saturday race is $70 online (19 and under Youth only $35) and includes lift ticket, prizes, and awards. This will be the final event of the Canadian Ski Mountaineering Cup and will count toward the ranking of racers nationally and the selection of next year’s Canadian Skimo Team.
