Doug Meyers Memorial Cup (8th Annual)
March 3-4
Ski clubs from all over Southern Alberta participate in Lake Louise Ski Club’s annual Doug Meyers race. The event includes two races held over the weekend. One race is specifically set for athletes registered in E2 programs that ski 50+ days per season (e.g., Lake Louise KD program), and the other race is specifically set for E1 programs that ski approximately 20 days per season (e.g., Lake Louise Nancy Greene 21-day program). The race is an opportunity to celebrate the memory of Doug and showcase our club as a leader in sportsmanship, fun and fair play and the spirit Doug and his family have nurtured throughout the years within the Lake Louise Ski Club.
Douglas G. Meyers 1972-2003
Doug Meyers had a long-standing relationship with the Lake Louise Ski Area. It began in 1985 when he skied competitively with the Lake Louise Ski Club, placing in the top 15 of the Canadian Juvenile Finals. It continued from 1990-1997 with coaching, and later as head coach, with the Nancy Greene Ski program. Doug died of an aggressive form of brain cancer on April 10, 2003 at 30 years of age. He left behind a legacy of love, acceptance for all and enthusiasm for life.

Smith Optics Big Mountain Challenge presented by Tecnica/Blizzard
March 8-11
The Smith Optics Big Mountain Challenge presented by Tecnica/Blizzard is back for its 9th year. The 2012 B.M.C. will mark the first year that the event has categories for both skiing and snowboarding. The event will run Friday (Qualifiers) & Saturday (Finals), with Sunday held as a weather day.
The prize pool is top notch with $4000 in cash to give away and nearly $10,000 in product prizing from sponsors Smith Optics, Tecnica/Blizzard, Fresh Sports and Dewalt. While the swag is an attractive feature, the B.M.C. is also a great opportunity to get together with your shred happy peers and push yourself to get creative in Lake Louise’s BIG terrain. Historically, this event has been held on the backside of Eagle Ridge; an ideal venue because of the number of hits and variety of lines. For the 2012 event, we will revisit old favorites and, conditions permitting, looking to add new venues to the B.M.C.’s repertoire.
This season’s Smith Optics Big Mountain Challenge will take place on the second weekend of March. Typically, the skies are blue and there is still fresh snow on the ground. Two days and three venues will determine the top skiers and snowboarder who will go home $700 cash, tons of sponsor product, and title of Big Mountain Champ.
